Still Hooked on This Space Rock
Location: The Gateway, Sector 7
It's been a little more than a year since I first found The Monolith, and the journey has been nothing short of mind-bending. I've just received some additional shore leave, and I can't wait to dive back into my research. I've decided it's high time to start documenting my findings here for posterity and clarity.
I've got my hands on a new device called the 'Resonance Relay' that I purchased while docked at the twin stations located by the Adilax Cluster. I'm eager to use it to continue to test The Monolith. I've been eager to test how The Monolith interacts with specific stellar frequencies. The potential for finding out more is exhilarating and scary, to say the least.
With every test I run, the risk grows. What if someone discovers what I'm doing? The power draw from my last test sent mechanical down to the sector to find out what could have caused that kind of fluctuation. Even stowing this new device garnered some questions from the crew. What if they were to find The Monolith? Could they even find it where I've hidden it? The thought is unsettling, but the mystery of The Monolith keeps driving me.
To date, I've managed to extract 11 linked experiences-each one represents what looks like a connected narrative and defies explanation. But it's not just the experiences that have me captivated; it's the sprites. These recurring 'characters' that keep appearing in my tests are equally puzzling and intriguing.
Among the sprites, Bad Bangs and Firebrand have caught my attention. Their interactions suggest a budding friendship, one that appears new but already shows signs of depth. They seem to have each other's backs, even when the stakes are high. I wish I had a friend like that. It's as if they're both learning to trust each other in a world that gives them little reason to do so. This adds another layer of complexity to what I've observed. Where could that information be coming from?
Another point of interest is the variability in the experiences and sprites. Running repeated tests sometimes yields slightly different results. It's the same narrative, the same sprites, but it's as if I'm looking at a reflection in moving water. The Monolith seems to be responding to my pokes and prods. I'm going to continue to monitor this and add what I find here.
Then there's 'The Menagerie,' an anomaly I detected early on but haven't been able to get clear data on since. It's elusive, and I'm desperate to know more. Right now, I continue to receive and compile data on the 'Omega men.'
I'll have to return to this, though. Just as I'm about to set up a new round of tests, I received an incoming message from Blair. There's something wrong with the ship, and they need me while they run some diagnostics on the nav system for Mercury VII. An interruption, but a necessary evil of life on The Gateway. I'll have to get back to my research later. But for now, the anticipation builds. I sense that these upcoming tests could be groundbreaking.
Maybe I'll have time to sketch what this thing looks like and add it to my next entry. I can't believe I haven't done that yet. Until then, the mysteries of The Monolith will just have to wait.
