New results- Experience 12
Location: Navigator's Quarters, Unit 1407 - The Gateway
I managed to slip away from the Mercury VII for the night. I told Blair, the First Officer, that I left my personal Data Slate at home and had to go back for it. He questions why I don't just use the company's communication device, since it's paid for, but I prefer to keep my work and personal life as separate as possible.
This worked out though as he questioned the results of the diagnostics and suspects a larger issue. It took longer than expected to run the tests and the results were atypical, so he wanted to speak with the lead engineer. The Directionality Navigation System seems fine but something's off since the last upgrade to v4. There were several warning codes that popped up. There was one code that was really strange - 2024WS. It showed up during one of my tests but the code has nothing to do with the navigation system. It's a Warp Systems Code suggesting warp drift, a phenomenon that could skew our trajectory and lead us astray from our plotted course. I'm not an engineer myself but I do know that a Warp Systems Code shouldn't happen during a navigation test, let alone pop up at my terminal. So for now, we're grounded, tethered to the main dock at The Gateway as the engineers go over the warp drive and delve into the depths of the ship's computer.
Though I love what I do, I feel like I won the lottery and received another rare moment of solitude back at my unit-or as I like to call it, my "Stellar Heaven." The name might be a bit grandiose for such a small cramped space, but it's mine. Normally I take in the vast amount of stars that shine in through my window, when The Gateway is on its final rotation for the night. The Central District 'Pillars' get a good look at things, all things considered, so I can't complain about the space. Tonight though is different. I'm turned away from my ritualistic gazing of the night's sky, studying the latest results from the Resonance Relay.
I left the unassuming device connected to my Data Slate to leverage the additional power from the slate's microbattery. It was a surprise that the Resonance Relay had already churned out new data and that my slate was able to keep up and crunch the data. The power draw must have been intense as it's unusual to see the low battery indicator on a slate.
So, here we are, another experience from the Omega Men, a 'page' so to speak, labeled as number 12 in the sequence. Five characters this time around can be clearly seen. I still need more context to understand what's going on, I thought Casey was on their side? Sides, look at me go.
While I continue to puzzle over this I'm also trying to fine-tune this device. I had it aligned with frequency 4F:6D:65:67:61:0A, in an attempt to match it with the previous scanner. That string of characters oddly resembles the inputs for Directionality, but those don't map to any coordinates I know of. I wonder what warning code would spawn then if we tried to go off map.
This unexpected downtime is an opportunity to delve deeper into The Monolith's mysteries. I'm going to rerun the test after I pick up a second microbattery. Will it yield the same experience or another? Each test peels back a layer with the hope that the next piece of the puzzle will come into view.
I didn't have time to sketch out The Monolith so maybe while I travel to District 21 for that battery I'll sketch out my setup and post it here. Until next time.
